It looks like Trader Joe’s is finally getting with the program: The grocery store chain has announced that it will begin accepting Apple Pay at all of its stores nationwide starting this summer. Read on to learn more about what this news means for you and your iPhone. That’s good news for bargain-hunting shoppers frustrated by the lack of mobile payment options at their local TJ locations. As we previously reported, some customers have even taken to social media to express their anger over not being able to use their iPhones to pay when shopping there. Trader Joe’s explained that it hadn’t implemented these services due to concerns over customer privacy and potential fraud risk. However, the company has now decided to accept Apple Pay — as well as Google Pay and Samsung Pay — to meet customer demand.

Does Trader Joe’s Have Apple Pay?

Yes, Trader Joe’s does take Apple Pay as a form of payment. You can use Apple Pay to pay for your purchase in the store or online.

Which Cards Will Be Supported By Trader Joe’s?

    Visa cards

Trader joes support all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. You can also use Apple Pay for online purchases and in-store payments.

    American Express.

American Express is accepted at all Trader Joe’s locations, as well as online, through their website.

    Debit cards (excluding prepaid cards).

Trader Joe’s accepts debit cards from Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. You can also use Apple Pay to make payments at the register or online.

How To Set Up Apple Pay At Trader Joe’s?

    Register your card

To add your card to your account, you’ll need to register it with Apple Pay. To do so, go to the “Card Information” section of the iOS Wallet app and add the information from your backup card. (You can also add a new card at any time.)

Add an existing credit or debit card

If you already have a credit or debit card in your iTunes account, you can add it by tapping either “Add Credit or Debit Card” at the bottom of the screen. If you have another credit or debit card that isn’t linked to iTunes, go ahead and click “Add Credit or Debit Card” on that screen as well. You’ll then be asked to enter in some basic information about the cards, such as name, address, and phone number, before being prompted to enter a security code that appears on every new credit or debit card transaction. (You can find this code on all cards by pulling down on any of them and tapping “more.”)

    Set up App

After entering all of your details and confirming them with a code printed on your new card, tap “Continue” at the bottom of the screen. The next screen will allow you to set up Apple Pay for online purchases; if you want to use it for in-store payments at Trader Joe’s locations, just tap “Continue.” You’ll then be prompted to enter a verification code, which will appear on each new transaction.

    Add card to Wallet

You can add the card that you just added to your iTunes account to Wallet by going into the “Settings” app and tapping on “Wallet & Apple Pay.” From there, tap on “Add Credit or Debit Card” and follow the steps described above.

    Use Apple Pay

Once you have added your card to Wallet and set up Apple Pay, you can use it anywhere that accepts contactless payments by holding your iPhone up to a payment terminal or simply double-tapping on it while within range of an NFC-enabled device or reader. You will be prompted for your passcode when making in-store payments, but they are not required if you’re paying with Apple Pay at an NFC reader.

    Delete old card

If you delete your old cards from iTunes, they will no longer be available for use with Apple Pay transactions at Trader Joe’s locations and online through their website. To delete a card from Wallet and make it unavailable for use with Apple Pay, go into “Settings” > “Wallet & Apple Pay” > “Cards” > select the card that needs deleting > tap on “Delete.”

    Transfer cards to other devices

To transfer your old credit or debit cards to other devices that can use Apple Pay, go into the “Settings” app > “Wallet & Apple Pay” > “Cards.” Select the card that needs transferring > tap on “Add Credit or Debit Card.” You will be prompted to enter a new security code on the old card before being able to transfer it to your new device.

    Change card and security code

If you discover that you have entered the wrong security code for your old card, or if you want to change your security code on the old card, go into “Settings” > “Wallet & Apple Pay” > “Cards.” Select the card that needs changing > tap on “Edit.” Enter the new passcode or change it yourself and tap on “Done.”

    Remove cards

To remove a credit or debit card from Wallet, go into the “Settings” app > “Wallet & Apple Pay” > “Cards.” Tap on the name of the card that needs deleting > select “Delete Card” and follow the abovementioned steps. You will also need to enter a new security code for any cards that are being removed from Wallet.

    Bottom Line

Adding Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay will be a big win for Trader Joe’s customers. You can finally use your phone to pay for your food (and other items) at the grocery store. And, for those who prefer to use debit cards, you’ll soon be able to do so through Apple’s digital payment method. Plus, you’ll get the added convenience of paying with your phone. So, what are you waiting for? You don’t have to wait until Trader Joe’s starts accepting cryptocurrency.

    FAQs:

Does the ability to pay with Apple Pay mean that I won’t be able to use my debit card at Trader Joe’s anymore?

No, you will still be able to use your debit card at Trader Joe’s locations and online through their website. However, if you want to pay with your debit card, you can do so by going into the “Settings” app > “Wallet & Apple Pay” > “Cards.” Select the card that needs changing > tap on “Edit.” Enter a new passcode or change it yourself and tap on “Done.”

Is there a limit on how many cards I can add to my Wallet?

There is no limit on how many cards you can add to Wallet for credit and debit cards (as long as a U.S.-based financial institution issues them). However, consider adding more than five credit or debit cards at once. In that case, your iPhone will prompt you with a pop-up notification asking if it is safe for you to continue adding more cards without turning off Apple Pay altogether. If this happens, simply cancel out of Wallet by pressing the Home button and then repeat step 1 of the Credit Cards Adding process above until all desired credit or debit card information has been added correctly per each individual card type.

Will the ability to pay with my phone in Apple Pay and Google Pay make it more challenging to use my debit card at Trader Joe’s?

No, you will still be able to use your debit card at Trader Joe’s locations and online through their website. However, if you want to pay with your debit card, you can do so by going into the “Settings” app > “Wallet & Apple Pay” > “Cards.” Select the card that needs changing > tap on “Edit.” Enter a new passcode or change it yourself and tap on “Done.”
