Maybe you have never had a bad experience with people and feel that you will connect with your roommate regardless of who they are. The truth is, having a roommate who is nothing like you can be challenging and poses a few problems. If you want things to work out, then you should put a little bit of thought into it beforehand. 1. Sleeping Habits

The sleeping habits of your potential roommate are one of the most important things to consider prior to moving in together. Ask your roommate how they feel about sleep and when they usually go to bed and get up. Are they going to keep you up all night or wake you up two hours before you want to get up? For example, if you are a clean and tidy person, it would be kind of irritating to come home every day to a mess that your roommate created. When considering a roommate, you should also consider the friends and or girlfriend/boyfriend that they have. This is very important because chances are, they may end up in your home at some point in time. If you have a feeling that you do not want your roommate to have company over, you may need to reconsider rooming with them. With that being said, you don’t necessarily have to like his or her friends, but you need to be able to tolerate them.

5. Eating Habits

When two people live together, it is safe to say that they will eat similar food. While you will obviously have your own preferences, you need to make sure that they eat similarly to you as a whole. For example, if you are trying to eat well and buy food that is healthy, a roommate who stacks the cupboards with junk food and snacks might not be the best choice for you.

6. Daily Schedule

Another thing to consider regarding a potential roommate is their daily schedule. Do the two of you work in the morning? Does one of you work from home? Does your roommate go out all night and come back early in the morning? These are all things to consider when deciding if things are going to work out. You may not necessarily want to see each other all the time, so make sure that both of your schedules work in a way that you want them to.

Trust is an important thing in every relationship, even the one between you and your roommate. This is especially important when it comes to leaving them alone with all of your belongings. If you feel like you can’t trust them as a person, you probably shouldn’t live together.
